DHL Driver Jobs
DHL was founded in 1969 by three men in San Francisco who flew cargo documents to Hawaii in a small plane so that customs officials would be able to start the review process on cargo arriving by ship before it even reached port. This idea saved customers tremendous amounts of processing time at customs, and it also marked the beginning of international air express service. Over the next decade, DHL expanded its service and added parcel delivery. In 2002, DHL became a part of Deutsche Post DHL, a global organization.
Courier-Driver
This is a local driving job. In some cases, it may be part-time, which could be a great benefit to college students looking to earn money while studying. The courier drives the van to customer locations, picks up packages, uses a scanner to track them, and delivers them to customers. For this job, DHL requires at least a CDL-C license, but if you have a CDL-A with endorsements, you are qualified to drive anything a CDL-C driver could.
Casual Driver/Dockworker
Dockworkers sort, load and unload containers. Because they are required to drive straight trucks and forklifts, dockworkers must also have a CDL-B and a clean driving record. Dockworkers should be able to lift up to 70 lbs, and also be able to tolerate less-than-ideal weather conditions.
International Service Workers
DHL’s largest hiring need is for International Service Workers, or package handlers. These workers sort, move, load and unload packages. The work is fast-paced, physical and deadline driven. It also requires a 10-year background check including fingerprinting and a drug screening. This position is full-time and comes with full access to DHL benefits, including tuition reimbursement for qualifying programs, which could put you on the path to getting your CDL without having to pay for it out-of-pocket.
